Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing SCAIA similar example is shot peening. The DEM particles in this case hit on a plate with perfectly elastic-plastic material behavior, with an initial speed at an angle of approximately 45 °. The strong pulse when striking the DEM balls leads to an irreversible plastic deformation of the metal sheet, which is retained even after the bombardment with particles is finished.
