New materials with specific properties are drivers for new technologies. A good example for this is the use of largely scratch-resistant smartphone displays. For the development of such materials, SCAI uses a virtual material design approach, which saves time and money compared to traditional methods. This approach combines multi-scale modeling and efficient simulation techniques such as multi-objective optimization, machine learning and data analysis.
A whole set of simulation tools have to be employed for the development of double-walled blow-molded tanks for hazardous materials. Currently, the transfer of material parameters in virtual process chains requires time-consuming manual adjustments. In the project VMAP partners from research and industry develop standardized interfaces. Software solutions from different vendors can be combined more easily and the influence of the production history on the final product is also considered.
